Onyx Boox Tab Ultra Features Color ePaper Screen

Onyx has launched Boox Tab Ultra, an E-reader with a large 10.3” screen, a high-performance hardware

Onyx is still fighting for e-reading, however, it might be more accurate to refer to its products as E Ink Android tablets given that they don't have the same locked-down operating systems as reMarkable's tablets or Amazon's Kindle e-readers. The Boox Tab Ultra C, is one of Onyx's most recent models.

The Boox Tab Ultra, which was introduced in April, is essentially a colored variant of the ReMarkable 2 or the Kindle Scribe digital tablets from Amazon. Similar features are available on the Tab Mini C, which is smaller and more portable.

You receive a 7.8-inch Kaleido 3 E Ink screen instead of a10.3-inch ePaper display, which can display 4,096 colors at 150 PPI (702 x 936)resolution or 300 PPI (1,404 x 1,872) for text and graphics in black and white, reports NewAtlas.

According to Onyx, the small tablet was created "to enhance the enjoyment of reading colorful novels, manga, web pages, and other content." The capacitive touch display offers 4,096 pressure sensitivity levels, Boox Super Refresh Technology is built-in for four task-optimized refresh modes, and there is a dual-tone front light to promote work after hours. The company's Pen Plus stylus is included with the tablet and may be used for note-taking, highlighting, and on-screen navigation.

In order to deliver on the promise of quick and responsive onscreen performance, the snappy Qualcomm Advanced octa-core processor and "exclusive GPU" are supported by 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 64 GB of UFS2.1 storage. The Tab Mini C has two speakers that can rock out to audiobooks, Android 11 with compatibility for third-party apps, a gyro for automatic screen rotation, Bluetooth 5.0, and dual-band Wi-Fi.

The 5,000-mAh battery should last for a very long time between top-ups thanks to the low power consumption of E Ink, and the ergonomic black metal shell is said to be suitable for "prolonged reading sessions without causing fatigue in the hands." The small tablet measures 0.33 in(8.3 mm) thick and weighs 9.3 oz (264 g) in total.

The Tab Mini C is available now for US$449.99, including the pen stylus and a magnetic cover.

Assassin’s Creed Haptic Shirt Lets You Feel

Ubisoft is attempting to replicate the idea using haptic feedback in a smart shirt.

Ubisoft is attempting to replicate the idea using haptic feedback in a shirt. Since technology hasn't quite caught up to the Animus virtual reality technology used in the Assassin's Creed series, which allows players to experience the brutal history of the brand. You will experience "sensations" like the main character Basim in Assassin's Creed: Mirage when the game debuts on October 12.

A technologically advanced shirt called the OWO Haptic Gaming System is utilized in some VR settings to provide players with tactile feedback on their bodies that corresponds with actions in a game. Even though Assassin's Creed: Mirage isn't a VR game, Ubisoft is collaborating with the maker to create a shirt with the game's emblem and will be adding haptic functionality to all platforms. The haptic feedback in the shirt, according to the OWO website, will allow you to "feel your precise movements when you take down your targets."

By adjusting the waves associated with the various types of feedback accessible in OWO's sensations library, the haptic feedback shirt enables users to experience true physical sensations. The collection of sensations and experiences ranges from knife wounds, severe stomach wounds, and gunshots with exit wounds to wind, tension, and freefall. That sounds like fun, reports TechSpot.

Similar specifications to those of OWO's Founder Limited Edition haptic feedback shirt are anticipated for the Mirage edition when it ships. Ten haptic sensation sites, 100-ohm high conductivity electrodes, Bluetooth 5.2 connectivity, and an eight-hour rechargeable USB Type-C battery are all included with the Founder Limited Edition. The Mirage version will also come with extras including an AC-themed Lycra shirt, 20 gel pads, a storage pouch, the OWO gadget, and an Assassin's Creed game code, according to OWO's Assassin's Creed skin page.

The OWO device and My OWO app allow users to personalize their experiences. Every game and user will have a distinct experience thanks to the app's capacity to calibrate and change the sensations and intensities supplied by the skin.

Assassin's Creed Mirage is scheduled for release on October 12 of this year for PC, PlayStation, Xbox, and Amazon Luna users. The game will also be available to all Ubisoft+ subscribers once released.

Teladoc to Integrate Microsoft AI in its Healthcare Platform

Teladoc Health announced its collaboration with Microsoft to integrate Microsoft AI in its platform.

Teladoc Health, the global leader in whole-person virtual care, today announced it is furthering its collaboration with Microsoft by working together to integrate Microsoft Azure Open AI Service, Azure Cognitive Services, and the Nuance Dragon Ambient eXperience (DAX) into the Teladoc Health Solo™ platform. The integrated solutions will automate the creation of clinical documentation during virtual exams to help ease the burden on the healthcare workforce while improving the quality of shared medical information and the care it supports. The Teladoc Health Medical Group also plans to use Nuance DAX Express for care visits provided directly by Teladoc Health.

“Administrative burden and staff shortages are major reasons why clinicians are leaving the profession,” said Dr. Vidya Raman-Tangella, chief medical officer at Teladoc Health. “We are focused on using AI to reassert and build the doctor-patient relationship at a time when technology frequently does the opposite. We are proud to partner with Microsoft and Nuance to break new ground.”

By 2025, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services predicts that there will be a nationwide shortage of 90,000 physicians worsened by professional burnout related to the demands of electronic paperwork. According to the American Medical Association, physicians spend two hours on administrative tasks for each hour of care provided. A longtime partner to hospitals and health systems, Teladoc Health is committed to helping organizations alleviate workforce burden and improve patient care, particularly within creased access and hybrid workflows like virtual nursing, enabling experienced remote nursing staff to perform nursing responsibilities that do not require physical touch. The company said in a press release that this frees up bedside nurses to focus on hands-on patient care and improving staff satisfaction.

“We are pleased to continue our collaboration with Teladoc Health, leveraging innovative technologies to help make it easier for clinicians to deliver care virtually and enhance the patient experience,” said Tom McGuinness, Corporate Vice President, Global Health & Life Sciences, Microsoft. “Teladoc Health’s integration of Azure Open AI Service and Nuance DAXgives clinicians the tools they need to deliver quality, coordinated care, easing administrative burdens and allowing them to spend more focused time with their patients.”

When integrated into the Teladoc Health Solo platform, Nuance DAX, an ambient clinical documentation solution, will automatically document patient encounters accurately and efficiently at the point of care for final clinician review and signoff. As a result, clinicians can interact with patients more naturally and conversationally without the need to look away to type notes during a telehealth visit.

The Teladoc Health Medical Group will also use Nuance DAXExpress, a workflow-integrated, AI-powered clinical documentation application that is the first to combine Nuance’s proven conversational and ambient AI with the newest and most capable AI model, GPT4, in the Azure OpenAI Service. The use of Nuance DAX Express will provide quick and accurate reporting of encounters to other virtual and community-based clinicians to better coordinate care.

“Adding Nuance DAX and DAX Express into the Teladoc Health ecosystem represents the type of collaborative innovation needed to serve the rapidly changing needs of clinicians and patients across the care continuum,” said Diana Nole, Executive Vice President and General Manager of Healthcare at Nuance, a Microsoft company. “It addresses the pressing challenge of reducing clinicians’ administrative workloads in some of the most demanding and dynamic care environments in healthcare. Moreover, it combines the efficiency and advanced power of conversational, ambient, and generative AI to give physicians the tools and information they need to provide timely, high-quality, reassuring, and personalized care in any location, especially in urgent and virtual care circumstances when patients need it the most.”

Innovative Wearable Sweat Sensor Predicts Muscle Fatigue

Tokyo University of Science Researchers have designed a novel sweat sensor.

A research team from the Tokyo University of Science (TUS) has designed a novel sweat sensor for continuous monitoring of lactate, which is helpful for predicting muscle fatigue.

The work, published online in ACS Sensors on June 15, 2023,describes the use of a technique called "heat-transfer printing" to fix a thin, flexible chloride ion sensor onto a textile substrate. The study was co-authored by Dr. Masahiro Motosuke, Dr. Tatsunori Suzuki, Dr. ShinyaYanagita, and Dr. Takahiro Mukaimoto of TUS.

"The proposed sensor can be transferred to fibersubstrates, and thus can be incorporated into textiles such as T-shirts,wristbands, and insoles," explains Dr. Shitanda. "Further, healthindicators such as chloride ion concentration in sweat can be measured by simply wearing them."

The heat-transfer printing approach offers several advantages. For one thing, the sensor is transferred outside of the piece of clothing, which prevents skin irritation. In addition, the wicking effect of the textile helps spread the sweat evenly between the electrodes of the sensor, creating a stable electrical contact. Moreover, printing the sensor on a flat surface and then transferring it prevents the formation of blurred edges that commonly occur when printing directly onto a textile.

The researchers carefully selected the materials and electrochemical mechanisms of the sensor to avoid risking an allergic reaction for the wearer. After developing the sensor, they conducted various experiments using artificial sweat to verify its accuracy in measuring chloride ion concentration. The change in the electromotive force of the sensor was −59.5mTV/log CCl−. Additionally, it displayed a earnest response and a linear relationship with the concentration range of chloride ions in human sweat. Moreover, no other ions or substances typically present in sweat were found to interfere with the measurements.

Related: Wearable Sweat Sensor Detects Inflammation

Lastly, the team tested the sensor on a volunteer who exercised on a static bicycle for 30 minutes, by measuring their perspiration rate, chloride ion levels in blood, and saliva osmolality every five minutes to compare with the data previously gathered by the sensor. The proposed wearable sensor could reliably measure the concentration of chloride ions in sweat.

The sensor can also transmit data wirelessly, making it useful for real-time health monitoring. "Since chloride is the most abundant electrolyte in human sweat, measuring its concentration provides an excellent indicator of the body's electrolyte balance and a useful tool for the diagnosis and prevention of heat stroke," remarks Dr. Shitanda.

This research thus demonstrates the potential of using wearable ion sensors for the real-time monitoring of sweat biomarkers, facilitating personalized healthcare development and athlete training management.

South Korean CGM Receives Regulatory Approval

i-SENS, the South Korean maker of CGM said it has won regulatory approval for its CareSens Air.

South Korean CGM maker i-SENS said it has received regulatory approval for CareSens Air, the first locally-developed continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) device

In addition, CareSens Air is the fourth CGM product following those from Medtronic, Abbott, and Dexcom to receive approval in Korea.

A continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is an apparatus that is worn on the body and continuously tracks blood glucose levels. It can be worn for up to a week and does not require finger pricking.

Early in March, i-SENS filed the necessary paperwork to the government for approval with the expectation of getting the go-ahead in late September.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety did not request any further supporting documentation, thus the approval arrived sooner than anticipated.

The business and Kakao Healthcare inked a memorandum of understanding in March to work together on chronic disease management using their platforms and product development skills.

In accordance with the agreement, i-SENS will continue to create top-notch products for the treatment and healthcare of patients, and Kakao Healthcare will create digital healthcare solutions and platforms.

The two businesses will also keep working together to increase consumer convenience and break into the international market.

According to i-SENS, CareSens Air has the longest usage time(15 days) and is the smallest and lightest CGM in Korea.

Without a separate receiver, the device sends blood glucose readings from the sensor to the smartphone app every five minutes. It also displays 24-hour blood glucose trends. In order to increase the accuracy of the results, it also contains a user calibration option.

Related: DexcomG6 CGM Gets Coverage in Alberta for Children and Youth Living With Diabetes

The company emphasized that consumers may organize their blood glucose control using these capabilities and check their blood glucose readings in real-time on their smartphones without having to enter any more data.

Additionally, because the medicine is sold in single packages, consumers who require short-term monitoring can buy it with no financial worry.

In the third quarter of this year, i-SENS intends to introduce the CGM after full-scale mass production starts after the approval.

The business will also get started right away on the registration of diabetic consumables so that people with type 1 diabetes can get financial assistance when buying the product.

“The first domestic CGM developed by i-SENS is very significant because all the CGMs currently available in Korea are foreign products,” i-SENS CEO Nam Hak-Hyun said. “Utilizing the experience of dominating the domestic market for BGMs, we plan to quickly launch our CGM device to the market and increase our domestic market share.”

BetterGuards Ankle Brace Now Available in The U.S.

Award-winning smart ankle brace BetterGuards is now available in the US.

The NBA-recognized ankle brace from Betterguards is now offered for sale in the US. The ankle brace recently won the Sports Technology Awards' Best Technology for Injury Prevention and Recovery category.

BetterGuard offers full protection and a full range of motion, in contrast to traditional ankle braces. A mini-piston in the ankle brace stabilizes players' ankles during crucial movements. The mini-piston, known as the BG Power and patented, is attached to braces or shoes and put on the outside of the ankle. Because it is velocity-dependent, it functions similarly to a seatbelt in a car.

Read more: In-ShoeFoot Function and Gait Analysis System

The sophisticated fluid system stabilizes the ankle when it is twisted or rolled and is only triggered in urgent situations. The BGProtection System is automatically turned off after the threat has passed, allowing the wearer's foot to resume normal movement. This helps to avoid and lessen the severity of common ankle injuries like sprains and torn ligaments.

Prior to the introduction, Betterguard underwent extensive internal testing, including the creation of numerous test benches to confirm the development processes. For instance, the gait simulation test bench used artificial ankle joints to assess the system's durability at various running speeds and shoe designs. Similar to this, a tilting platform assessed both with and without the ankle protection the protective effect of simulated twisting on mechanical ankles, reports Tomorrow’s World Today.

Furthermore, research from other sources was carried out to guarantee damage prevention. According to the tests, the BetterGuard has a similar preventive effect to stiff traditional braces and has a higher inversion reduction and subjective comfort compared to placebo and unbraced situations. Additionally, a research on the prevalence of ankle injuries with BetterGuards is being conducted on professional German handball, basketball, and volleyball teams.

NBA’s Launchpad program and BetterGuards

BetterGuards is presently being tested in the league as one of the five firms selected to take part in the NBA Launchpad in 2022 to evaluate the possible benefits in terms of injury prevention. The NBA Launchpad program seeks to identify, assess, and test out cutting-edge technology in order to innovate the NBA.

Among those already using the BetterGuard in the US are NBAstars Franz and Moe Wagner of the Orlando Magic. "As professional athletes, we take special care of our bodies, and we need a brace that not only offers protection but also permits freedom of movement," claims Franz. Over the years, we've tried a lot of ankle braces, but none have come close to providing The BetterGuard's full range of motion and intelligent protection.

In the NBA, where nearly every player has missed time due to ankle ailments, The BetterGuard is a crucial component in maintaining health and performance. The BetterGuard delivers unmatched 360-degree freedom of movement and protection just when I need it, in contrast to conventional braces.

Wearable Sweat Sensor Detects Inflammation

Researchers at Caltech have developed a wearable, noninvasive sensor that monitors.

Our world has changed in ways we never could have predicted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The technology significantly impacts every aspect of our everyday life, including remote work and virtual interactions. The incorporation of remote healthcare has emerged as a game-changing approach that provides ease, accessibility, and improved patient outcomes as we navigate through this pandemic and beyond.

Temperature checks became a common screening technique in public locations including airports, workplaces, and schools during the pandemic. Fever, an elevated body temperature, is frequently used as a sign of inflammation. Our immune system responds to viruses like SARS-CoV-2 by releasing cytokines and other inflammatory chemicals. Fever may result from this immunological activation raising the body temperature. However, not everyone with inflammation notices a notable increase in body temperature, emphasizing the necessity for other techniques of inflammatory monitoring.

For regular at-home monitoring, measuring inflammation has traditionally required invasive blood tests with lengthy turnaround times. But what if there was a non-invasive, real-time solution that could give us insightful knowledge about the level of inflammation in our bodies?

Researchers from the California Institute of Technology, Caltech, have developed InflaStat, a wearable, noninvasive sensor that monitors for a biomarker of inflammation in the wearer’s sweat. They say the device could be used at home by people with chronic inflammatory diseases, reports New Atlas.

Before starting to create their ground-breaking sweat-analyzing sensor, the researchers had to overcome some challenges. The key one is that other chemicals can be detected more easily than CRP. Because its molecules are larger and it is present in the blood at much lower concentrations than other biomarkers, it is more difficult to secrete them into sweat.

“Those were the main issues that prevented people from doing wearable CRP sensing before,” said Wei Gao, corresponding author of the study. “We need high sensitivity to monitor very low-concentration CRP automatically on the skin.”

The InflaStat is built of laser-engraved graphene with a lot of surface area and microscopic pores. In addition to special chemicals known as redox molecules that can produce a little electric current under specific circumstances, the pores also contain antibodies that connect with CRP. Gold nanoparticles with distinct sets of CRP-detecting antibodies are included into the sensor's structure.

When CRP molecules from the wearer's perspiration reach the sensor, they bind to both the antibodies in the detector and the pores of the graphene, which act as a detector. Once bonded to the graphene, the nanoparticles cause the redox molecules to produce an electrical current, which is detected by the sensor's electronic components.

The signal, which is very faint, is greatly enhanced compared to the signal that would be produced by a single CRP molecule since each gold nanoparticle includes several detection antibodies.

The researchers tested the InflaStat on healthy participants, patients with COPD, and participants who recovered from a COVID infection. They found that the sensor was comfortable to wear and could obtain inflammatory biomarker information noninvasively and wirelessly.

“We investigated sweat CRP levels of healthy individuals and patients with different inflammatory conditions like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), heart failure, and active and past infections. We observed substantial elevation in sweat CRP from patients with various inflammatory conditions and found a strong connection between the levels of CRP in sweat and blood. This exciting finding suggests that monitoring sweat CRP levels could be a promising approach for detecting and tracking chronic and acute inflammation in the body,” the researchers wrote.

“By capturing this valuable data, we can take proactive steps toward managing our health, detecting early signs of inflammation-related diseases, and making informed decisions about our well-being. The future of remote healthcare is at our fingertips, quite literally, and it promises to transform the way we understand and care for our bodies.”

The study was published in the journal Nature Biomedical Engineering.

This Smart Bandage Provides Wound Report in Real-Time

Scientists at the National University of Singapore have developed a smart bandage that shows.

Chronic wounds are a major health concern and they affect the lives of more than 25 million people in the United States. They are susceptible to infection and are the leading cause of nontraumatic limb amputations worldwide. The wound environment is dynamic, but their healing rate can be enhanced by administration of therapies at the right time. This approach requires real‐time monitoring of the wound environment with on‐demand drug delivery in a closed‐loop manner.

A team of scientists at the National University of Singapore has developed a dressing that continuously shows how the wound is faring – without needing a power source. The smart bandage is called PETAL (Paper-like Battery-free In situ AI-enabled Multiplexed) sensor patch. Along with being a bit of a forced acronym, the bandage's name also refers to the fact that it looks (sort of) like a pinwheel flower.

Related: Flexible, Antibacterial Conductive Hydrogel-ePatch For Accelerated Wound Healing

"We designed the paper-like PETAL sensor patch to be thin, flexible, and biocompatible, allowing it to be easily and safely integrated with wound dressing for the detection of biomarkers," said the principal scientist, Dr. Su Xiaodi. "We can thus potentially use this convenient sensor patch for prompt, low-cost wound care management at hospitals or even in non-specialist healthcare settings such as homes."

The co includes three layers: a lower layer made of medical tape that sticks to the skin surrounding the injury, a middle layer called the "fluidic panel" composed of wax paper with microfluidic channels arranged in the shape of a five-petalled flower, and an upper layer made of breathable transparent silicone.

The fluid from the wound is passively sucked via a hole in the fluidic panel when the PETAL is placed in it, and it is then distributed into the five channels that make up the petals of the flower.

One of five "wound indicators" — temperature, pH, uric acid levels, moisture, and concentrations of a metabolic waste product known as trimethylamine — causes a chemical present in a reservoir at the end of each channel to change color once the fluid reaches it.

It is feasible to evaluate the present status of the wound without removing the dressing by taking a smartphone snapshot of the PETAL and then using an AI-based app to analyze the colors of the reservoirs in that photo. The technique was tested on rats and found to be 97% accurate at telling the difference between chronic and burn wounds that were healing and those that weren't.

Google: Gemini Will Outshine ChatGPT

New Artificial Intelligence Gemini will outshine OpenAI’s ChatGPT as per DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis

A chatbot that may compete with or perhaps top OpenAI's well-liked ChatGPT is what DeepMind, the renowned research facility owned by Google, is aiming to build as the race to create potent language models continues to heat up. Gemini is a new AI language model that uses methods from DeepMind's ground-breaking AlphaGo system, which is famed for its victory over a skilled human Go player. Gemini is an exhilarating mix of the impressive linguistic capabilities of large-scale models with the strategic planning skills of AlphaGo.

DeepMind CEO Demis Hassabis revealed to Wired that Gemini would not only possess the capacity to analyze text but also exhibit problem-solving skills. “At a high level, you can think of Gemini as combining some of the strengths of AlphaGo-type systems with the amazing language capabilities of the large models,” Hassabis stated. “We also have some new innovations that are going to be pretty interesting.”

The forthcoming Gemini chatbot, briefly previewed at Google’s I/O developer conference in May, is expected to leverage advancements in reinforcement learning, a technique that rewards and penalizes AI systems to teach them desired behaviors. This approach has already yielded significant improvements in the language model domain, as seen in ChatGPT’s response generation. With DeepMind’s expertise in reinforcement learning, honed through projects like AlphaGo, the lab aims to push the boundaries of generative AI.

Gemini is still under construction and won't be finished for several months. The initiative, which might cost tens, hundreds, or perhaps millions of dollars, will leverage cutting-edge AI methods like reinforcement learning and tree search created for AlphaGo.

Software's capacity to learn how to solve strategic issues, such as selecting the next move in a game of Go or playing a video game, is referred to as reinforcement learning. A technique for discovering and storing the next potential moves on a board is tree search.

As they only rely on pattern search approaches to try to forecast the most statistically significant text snippets to respond to a user's query, current LLM systems are restricted in their capacity to learn new things or even to "adapt" to strategic and sophisticated challenges. There is nothing remotely "intelligent" about it, but if you don't require responsibility, dependability, or even plain factual correctness, the output of those constrained generative AIs can be stunning.

Related : ChatGPT's Knowledge of Heart Disease Prevention

One of the methods developed by DeepMind researchers over the past few years, feedback-based reinforcement learning, has the potential to significantly boost LLM performance and offer Gemini an advantage over other systems.

Hassabis claims that DeepMind and Brain, Google's AI research divisions that have now been integrated into the Google DeepMind division, are responsible for "80 or 90 percent of the innovations "we are currently noticing in ChatGPT and other AI systems. Mountain View might reclaim its leadership in the AI race with Gemini.
