Additional teasers for Polar's next wearable, which is scheduled to arrive on September 3, have been released. The absence of a screen and subscriptions has been confirmed by the company. A curving silhouette of what appears to be a lightweight activity band – something resembling a Whoop-style device – can be seen in an earlier photograph that Polar shared.

“This is not just a new POLAR wearable. This is a brand-new POLAR,” the marketing explains, with a comment from Sander Werring, the company’s CEO.

“Our users have been asking for a new kind of wearable – one that puts them in control of their health and fitness right out of the box, without the distractions of screens or the pressure of constant notifications. What they want is simplicity and freedom,” he explains.

Instead of emphasizing the device's features, the marketing here focuses a lot on its shortcomings. In addition to "no compromise" and no screen, the actual deal-breaker might be the absence of a subscription, reports Lloyd Coombes in TechRadar.

"Pay once. Own It, “the page states, which contrasts sharply with Whoop's various subscription tiers, all of which demand a user to make ongoing payments.  No data, no subscription – basically, this is what Polar wants to change.

Polar has yet to release any technical specifications. However, it keeps implying that this won't be a smartwatch. "Not another screen….Promise”.  It's a fairly powerful message.

Heart rate tracking, sleep monitoring, and raw data exports are probably included if this is a revamped consumer version of the Polar 360. Businesses have already been using the Polar 360, but the general public has never had access to it.

That might be about to change. This teaser seems to coincide with a recent FCC application. It might be for the same gadget.

We're only a few days away from learning what Polar has in store, but you can remain informed by providing your details on their website.
