Ozan Cakmakci leads the Optical Architecture & New Technology Integration group at Google, focusing on augmented reality (AR) optics. He is best known for his foundational work in curved lightguide technology and previously led the development of next-generation optics for Google Glass. His work also includes guiding AR investments through due diligence efforts totaling several hundred million dollars.

He holds a Ph.D. in Optics from College of Optics and Photonics (CREOL) at University of Central Florida, has 98 issued patents, and over 3500 citations for his publications. He is the author of the forthcoming book Optical Design of Eyewear Displays (SPIE Press, 2025).
