Since December 2018 Matthias is a managing partner at the Fraunhofer Tech Transfer Fund (FTTF), an independent Venture Capital fund with a volume of € 60 million. The FTTF invests in Deep Tech start-ups using Fraunhofer technologies and is funded by the European Investment Fund (EIF) and the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
From 2004 to 2012 he worked at the tech transfer office of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. In 2013 Matthias became head of the new unit ‘Fraunhofer Venture Lab’ that was funded by the German Federal Ministry for Research. The focus of the Venture Lab was the Fraunhofer Accelerator Programme "FDays®", which was developed together with renowned national and international start-up centres such as Ryerson University in Toronto. Today's Fraunhofer AHEAD emerged from this initiative, which is the key tech transfer program at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft.
Matthias was also involved as an expert in various innovation initiatives, such as the innovation fund of the Helmholtz research organization. He is also a guest lecturer for entrepreneurship in the Executive MBA at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
