Dr. Carl James is an applied scientist whose research focuses on human performance, wearable technology, and thermoregulation. He has worked as a scientist in both elite sport and academia, helping to advance evidence‑based approaches to sporting performance. This includes supporting medal‑winning teams at major international competitions such as the Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, and Asian Games. At Hong Kong Baptist University, he leads a major project with the Hong Kong Sports Institute focused on integrating multi‑sensor, real‑time monitoring into endurance sport performance and safety. Dr. James has published extensively on heat stress, environmental physiology, and sensor‑based monitoring, and his research has been featured in global media outlets including the BBC, The New York Times, and Scientific American. He is a CASES‑accredited practitioner, reviewer, and supervisor, and contributes to the CASES Climate Change and Sustainability Expert Committee, as well as the Environmental Extremes Steering Committee.
