Alois C. Hopf (PhD)

CSO & Co-Founder

Bottneuro

Dr. Hopf is a Swiss neuroscientist, CSO and Co-Founder of Bottneuro. To understand the underlying mechanism of life and how these fundamental mechanisms can be modulated for human benefit, he studied biotechnology at ETH Zurich. His initial focus on regenerative biology and stem cell research helped him to understand the intrinsic regenerative capacities of biological systems. In his subsequent studies, his focus shifted towards technological interventions to modulate biological processes to bring direct health benefits to patients. During his PhD studies in neuroscience, he investigated technological interventions to repair the nervous system and alter the progression of neurodegenerative processes such as Alzheimer’s disease.  Based on his PhD studies at the University Hospital in Basel, he co-founded Bottneuro to bring his academic findings to clinical application. Since incorporation in 2021, Bottneuro has developed the custom-made Miamind neurostimulator for personalized, transcranial electrical stimulation at home. In 2024, Dr. Hopf led the first clinical trial of Bottneuro investigating the safety and feasibility of the Miamind neurostimulator. Since then, the Miamind neurostimulator has been registered as a custom-made medical device and is now prescribed to several patients for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease and other neurological disorders.
