Alen Juginovic is a physician and postdoctoral researcher at Harvard Medical School, where he studies the impact of poor sleep quality on health. He teaches a course titled "Neurobiology of Emotions and Mood Disorders’’ at Harvard College, where he is an instructor at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology.
He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine, the official journal of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, and is the author of the book “Sleep Science Made Simple." Alen has received several awards, including the European Citizen’s Prize, Best Young Project Manager in Croatia, two Rector’s Awards, and the Think Global Award.
Since 2017, Alen and his team have organized annual conferences in Croatia aimed at inspiring the next generation of biomedical leaders. These conferences, some of which organized by his NGO Med&X, have gathered over 2,400 participants from more than 30 countries, including 10 Nobel Laureates and many medical leaders from around the world, such as the Dean of Harvard Medical School, Chief Medical Officer of Microsoft, and Chief Scientist of the World Health Organization. Furthermore, Med&X organizes the Accelerator program, which partners with research labs and clinics at leading universities and hospitals like Harvard, Cleveland Clinic, and MIT to offer medical students invaluable summer clinical/research internship opportunities.
